Picture the week before the holidays
There is one person in every family who wraps the presents. They have the paper, the scissors that only they are allowed to use, and a system. They are also the person who knows what everyone actually wanted. By midnight they are measuring paper for a bicycle and wondering where the evening went.
For a long time, a law office worked the same way. The person who knew the most about your case was also the person collecting the records, sorting them, retyping them and assembling the package. The thinking and the taping were done by the same pair of hands, and the taping took most of the day.
So we got a machine for the wrapping
At The Ledger Law Firm, software does the wrapping. It answers the phone at any hour and takes down what happened. It reads each new intake, puts the facts in order and flags what matters. It drafts the demand package from the records. It does not get tape on its sleeve, and it has never once lost the scissors.
It is very good at this. It is also not allowed to do anything else.
The bow is a different job
Choosing the gift is not wrapping. Knowing who it is for is not wrapping. Deciding whether a case is one the firm can take, what the plan is and what to say to the insurance company is not paperwork, and no software here does any of it.
A lawyer reads what the machine prepared. A lawyer corrects it. A lawyer signs it, and only then does it leave the office. That signature is the bow, and it is the reason the package means anything.
What this means if you call us
- The phone gets answered, at any hour. It may be a person on the intake team or our SI phone agent. Either way, what you say gets written down and reaches the legal team.
- Your facts get organized before a lawyer opens the file, so the lawyer starts with your case and not with a pile.
- Every legal decision is made by a licensed attorney. That will not change, no matter how good the wrapping machine gets.
A note about notes: these are lighthearted pieces about how our office works. They are not legal advice, and they say nothing about what any case is worth or how it will turn out.
